R1 Million Cash for Creatives | Donate Now
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, artists and creative professionals throughout the country have had to endure immense hardship as a result of the national lockdown. With the closure of arts venues, cancelled events and a dramatic pause in audience engagement, artists, many of whom work as freelancers, were confronted with an abrupt loss of income. This unprecedented blackout of the creative sector still carries with it a devastating effect of uncertainty, with many artists across the nation struggling to make ends meet whilst living on the brink of extinction.
In an attempt to mitigate some of the financial stress artists find themselves in, Cash For Creatives aims to raise R1 million to help creatives in crisis.
Cash For Creatives is a funding initiative that came about as a response to the current state of affairs within the South African arts community. Although the curtains are slowly lifting and the sector’s stage is starting to light up, artists are still in need of assistance with food, healthcare products and other basic necessities. Through this fundraising campaign, we hope to be able to assist 100 artists with a once of cash injection of R10 000.
We appeal to the public and wider arts community to get involved in this campaign. Each contribution will take us one step closer to achieving our goal in order to help creatives in crisis. Each donation and eBook purchase will be used to give back to artists who play an integral part of our social fabric.
Once we reach the target amount, we will open a call for applications where artists can apply for the once-off grant by submitting a brief motivation letter. Preference will be given to those who have not received a steady stream of income in the past 5 months.
